Transforming the garage

When is a garage not a garage? When the car has to sit on the drive through all weathers – because its home has slowly but surely become an extension of yours.

It’s such a handy space, just a hop and skip from the front door. What better place for the washing machine or the fridge freezer, not to mention the kids’ bikes, the lawn mower and all manner of stuff we can’t bring ourselves to throw out?

Making that space a real extension of the home was the aim of the owners of a large 1930s semi in Baslow.

We recently gained planning permission for a scheme which will transform their living accommodation, giving them an additional bedroom with a large family room below – by knocking into the garage at the side of their home and adding a large extension too.

The scheme also includes… A new garage! Built separate to the house, it may well get to house the family car.
